Chapter 12

Fourth Transformation—Green Jaguar

Melissa’s eyes flew open in the darkness, adrenaline coursing through her as she scrambled to a sitting position. It took her a few moments to remember where she was, but realizing that didn’t give her any clues as to what had roused her.

Sable mumbled and pulled herself upright. “Wassat?” she asked groggily.

“Is someone trying to break in?” Melissa asked in a whisper, her hand moving towards her medallion. She wasn’t afraid of that possibility. In fact, after all they’d been through a burglar felt like a waste of a transformation!

“Nah, Bastian would be goin’ nuts if someone was tryin’ to rob us,” she yawned.

Sable had a point. Her normally noisy dog hadn’t made a peep. She listened, the silence of the room pressing in on her.

“Well, something woke us up.”

“I’m goin’ back to sleep,” Sable muttered, laying down and pulling her blankets up over her head.

“Feline Warriors!” came a distorted voice from the medallions. Sable sat back up with an irritated expression as Melissa tapped the blue gem of hers and spoke into it.

“We hear you. Go ahead.” That must be the Warrior of Insight the Great Power had told them about earlier.

“Transform and teleport to my location,” the male voice said again, clearer this time.

“I don’t know where you are,” Melissa said, looking up at Sable. It might have been a trick of the darkness or the way the moonlight from the window was hitting her, but she looked paler than usual.

“I’m on a spaceship. That voice earlier told me to tell you to let Purple Tiger lead the teleport, whatever that means.”

“We’ll be there soon,” she responded, yanking the necklace over her head. She turned to look at Sable again, watching as she took her own pendant off. Her motions seemed robotic and she muttered something Melissa didn’t quite hear.

“What’s wrong?” Melissa asked.

“Huh? Oh, just half-asleep still I guess.” She blinked, then looked down at her in determination. “Let’s go save your little brother!”

They both stood and held the medallions over their head, speaking in unison.

“Feline Mode, Activate!”

After the transformation ended Blue Caracal immediately went over to Purple Tiger, grabbing her hand.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“The last time I teleported it was with White Lion, and we got separated. The voice said to let you lead the teleport, but I don’t wanna be lost again.”

“Got it,” she said with a nod.

They both touched their pendants with one hand while holding on to each other with the other.

“Teleport!” they cried.

The bedroom faded out and she made sure to keep Purple Tiger in her mind’s eye, focusing intently on her presence. Why did she have to lead the teleport this time—was it because she was somehow familiar with the spaceship? That couldn’t be it.

Their destination began to fade in around them, replacing the emptiness they’d traveled through. She heard the soles of her boots hit the floor as she dropped gently on to it, the metallic noise sounding way too loud in the large, empty space. Blue Caracal opened her eyes and lifted her head.
